Packers Rank Going Into 2012 Season

Packers AP Ranking
The Packers concluded the preseason atop the Associated Press Pro32 poll. Despite a number of bumps in the team's August performance, twelve first-place votes were cast for the Packers, ten more than second place finisher, the New England Patriots. This is the second consecutive season that the team has topped the ranking, last year's coming after an impressive series of upsets in the playoffs led to a Super Bowl victory in 2010.
Despite an early loss in the 2011 postseason, pollsters applauded the team's nearly flawless record that year, and recognized the return of most of the key members of that roster, many of whom had successful preseason showings. Despite last season's bottom-of-the-barrel defense, pollsters have not lost confidence in head coach Mike McCarthy's ability to improve over the off-season, noting that the preseason was better than expected.
