Oktoberfest In Milwaukee 2013 | Heidelberg Park Comes Alive

Milwaukee Oktobefest
Milwaukee's own brand of the famous Oktoberfest celebration kicked-off its month-long run over the weekend. Held at Heidelberg Park in Glendale every weekend through September 28th, the event is made-up to recreate the original Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Friends of the Bavarian Soccer Club will sponsor the celebration in 2013; just two years after the group purchased the 15 acre parcel and building that houses the Oktoberfest activities.

Patrons inside the Bavarian Fest Garten will be treated to a plethora of authentic German cuisine and beverages (mostly beer). Prepared by more than 10 unique area German cultural clubs, dinners include brats, open-pit roasted pig and chicken, pretzels, desserts, and much more. Bavarian-inspired breweries from around the Midwest and the world will represent the beer selection, and interactive activities inside the complex include the naming of the Oktoberfest Queen, traditional sing-alongs with an all-brass band, and soccer games.

Picnic tables set-up outside of the building allows attendees a chance to stretch their legs on ample green space along-side the Milwaukee river. Outdoor kid-friendly activities are planned, and the entire Heidelberg Park will be open to explore.

History Of Heidelberg Park

Milwaukee's Oktoberfest has been a long-running affair at Heidelberg Park. First started in the early 1950s, the celebration has become the highlight of the city's many German cultural clubs, which came together to first acquire the land in 1934. Since then, patrons from around the world have attended the event, including local politicians, celebrities, and even a president.

Heidelberg Park is conveniently located just blocks from the Silver Spring exit off of I-43. Street-parking can be found on Lexington Blvd. and Ironwood Rd., which run along the south and east ends of the park, respectively. Admission to Oktoberfest is $5 at the gate, though firefighters, police, and military veterans get in free every Friday.

Milwaukee Admirals Preseason Games 2013

Milwaukee Admirals Hockey Schedule
The Milwaukee Admirals hockey team will play two preseason games in September. The pair of match-ups will mark a weekend-break from the team's training schedule in preparation for their October 11th regular-season opener at Abbotsford. The Admirals play the first home game of their 35th year as an NHL farm team at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on October 19 against Chicago.

The Admirals home-set preseason game will be held at the Milwaukee School of Engineering's Kern Center. The Rockford Ice Hogs travel to meet the team on September 27th at 7PM for the first exhibition match for both sides. Tickets to the game are half-off for students at the college.

Milwaukee hosted Chicago at the Kern Center for an early October preseason meeting in 2012. The Wolves took home a win with a 3-1 victory over their northern rivals.

The Admirals have a chance for vengeance against Chicago in their second exhibition game of the 2013 preseason. The Wolves welcome the team to the Hoffman Estates Ice Arena on September 28th at 7PM.

The two-game preseason is a short prequel to the Admirals recently released 76-game regular-season schedule. The team joins Chicago, Rockford, and Grand Rapids in returning to represent the American Hockey League's Midwestern division. Moving from Houston, the newly formed Iowa Wild will compete as the fifth team in the division in 2013. Highlight meetings outside of the division include three home-home series against Hamilton, Toronto, and Utica, as well as games against the likes of Oklahoma City, Texas, and Lake Erie.
