Oktoberfest In Milwaukee 2013 | Heidelberg Park Comes Alive

Milwaukee Oktobefest
Milwaukee's own brand of the famous Oktoberfest celebration kicked-off its month-long run over the weekend. Held at Heidelberg Park in Glendale every weekend through September 28th, the event is made-up to recreate the original Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Friends of the Bavarian Soccer Club will sponsor the celebration in 2013; just two years after the group purchased the 15 acre parcel and building that houses the Oktoberfest activities.

Patrons inside the Bavarian Fest Garten will be treated to a plethora of authentic German cuisine and beverages (mostly beer). Prepared by more than 10 unique area German cultural clubs, dinners include brats, open-pit roasted pig and chicken, pretzels, desserts, and much more. Bavarian-inspired breweries from around the Midwest and the world will represent the beer selection, and interactive activities inside the complex include the naming of the Oktoberfest Queen, traditional sing-alongs with an all-brass band, and soccer games.

Picnic tables set-up outside of the building allows attendees a chance to stretch their legs on ample green space along-side the Milwaukee river. Outdoor kid-friendly activities are planned, and the entire Heidelberg Park will be open to explore.

History Of Heidelberg Park

Milwaukee's Oktoberfest has been a long-running affair at Heidelberg Park. First started in the early 1950s, the celebration has become the highlight of the city's many German cultural clubs, which came together to first acquire the land in 1934. Since then, patrons from around the world have attended the event, including local politicians, celebrities, and even a president.

Heidelberg Park is conveniently located just blocks from the Silver Spring exit off of I-43. Street-parking can be found on Lexington Blvd. and Ironwood Rd., which run along the south and east ends of the park, respectively. Admission to Oktoberfest is $5 at the gate, though firefighters, police, and military veterans get in free every Friday.

Milwaukee Admirals Preseason Games 2013

Milwaukee Admirals Hockey Schedule
The Milwaukee Admirals hockey team will play two preseason games in September. The pair of match-ups will mark a weekend-break from the team's training schedule in preparation for their October 11th regular-season opener at Abbotsford. The Admirals play the first home game of their 35th year as an NHL farm team at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on October 19 against Chicago.

The Admirals home-set preseason game will be held at the Milwaukee School of Engineering's Kern Center. The Rockford Ice Hogs travel to meet the team on September 27th at 7PM for the first exhibition match for both sides. Tickets to the game are half-off for students at the college.

Milwaukee hosted Chicago at the Kern Center for an early October preseason meeting in 2012. The Wolves took home a win with a 3-1 victory over their northern rivals.

The Admirals have a chance for vengeance against Chicago in their second exhibition game of the 2013 preseason. The Wolves welcome the team to the Hoffman Estates Ice Arena on September 28th at 7PM.

The two-game preseason is a short prequel to the Admirals recently released 76-game regular-season schedule. The team joins Chicago, Rockford, and Grand Rapids in returning to represent the American Hockey League's Midwestern division. Moving from Houston, the newly formed Iowa Wild will compete as the fifth team in the division in 2013. Highlight meetings outside of the division include three home-home series against Hamilton, Toronto, and Utica, as well as games against the likes of Oklahoma City, Texas, and Lake Erie.

UFC 164 and Joe Rogan Come To BMO Harris Bradley Center In 2013

UFC 164 Milwaukee
To compliment the UFC 164 event at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on August 31st, color-commentator and stand-up comedian Joe Rogan will perform at the Pabst on the 30th. The 46 year-old returns to Milwaukee after last appearing at the Pabst in 2011.

Rogan's stop in the city was made possible by his slot to play host at the UFC event the next day. His career began with the mixed martial arts league as an interviewer in 1997. From there, Rogan has become one of the most widely recognized personalities on the UFC circuit as lead color-commentator.

His brand of blunt and opinionated stand-up has also become popular world-wide, attracting thousands of fans to his high-profile performances. Rogan has most recently taken his act to new mediums. Apple iTunes named his multi-topic podcast one of the best in their library, and users regularly rate the show in the top-ten.

The Pabst Theater is located in downtown Milwaukee on the corner of Water and Wells. Street parking is ample and free, though should spots fill-up, the venue offers discounted lot-prices at the CPS parking structure on Wells and Broadway.

Bernie Brewer Will Be 40 Years Old This Weekend | Party With Bernie At Miller Park

Weekend at Bernies Brewers Party
The Brewers are inviting fans to enjoy their version of Weekend at Bernie's starting on August 16th. In honor of the team's famed mascot's 40th birthday, Miller Park will play host to the Birthday Weekend at Bernie the Brewer's celebration through Sunday, August 18th. Patrons can enjoy a number of family friendly attractions exclusive to the event in addition to all of the regular favorites at the ballpark, as well as a three-game home-stand for the Brewers against the Reds.

Bernie the Brewer made his first official appearance in 1973. Modeled after the eccentric Milt Mason, an early fan of the Brewers who sat atop the team's scoreboard for 40 days in 1970 to attract 40,000 people to an August game against the Indians, Bernie has been a staple-sight for Brewers fans for two generations. A nine-year hiatus starting in the mid-80s marks the only time the mascot has spent in retirement.

Southwest Airlines in the premier sponsor of the Birthday Weekend at Bernie's. The airline plans to provide thousands of dollars in free give-a-ways over the three days, including beer cozies and plane tickets.

Saturday, August 17th is slated as the official birth day for Bernie in 2013. Free round-trip domestic tickets will be announced during every inning of the game that night, and a special singing of Happy Birthday will take place.

Another chorus of Happy Birthday will be held Sunday during Bernie's Party on the Plaza. The Klements Racing Sausages will be on-hand for the party, as will other mascots from Milwaukee sports teams.

Fans that can't make it to the three-day event still have a chance to show their appreciation for Bernie's four decades of service. A public card is set up on Miller Park's field level for fans to sign, and Bernie's popular Twitter account is already a-buzz with birthday wishes and photos. The Milwaukee Brewers official website is even taking part in the fun, offering fans a virtual mustache to place on an uploaded photo that they can then share on Integra or Twitter.

Milwaukee Brewfest July 27 | 200 Breweries Means Lots Of Beer

Milwaukee Brewfest 2013One of Milwaukee's youngest summer festivals is fast becoming one of its most popular. The annual Milwaukee Brewfest will hold its their fourth annual event on July 27, at Old Coast Guard Pavilion Park, announcing in recent weeks that the festival will be the largest to-date. VIP tickets that provided buyers with early admission and exclusive access to limited beer runs have already sold-out and organizers expect door tickets to go quickly the day of the festival.

Over 200 breweries from around the world will be on-hand for the 4th annual Milwaukee Brewfest. Well known purveyors such as HofbrÀuhaus and Mike's Hard Lemonade will be in attendance, as will smaller craft breweries like New Belgium.

Wisconsin represents an ample number of participants in this year's event. Brewers from Milwaukee to Madison to Rhinelander will have offerings available. Fans who want to delve deeper into the world of beer can visit the vendors section at the festival. The Museum of Beer and Brewing will have displays showing the history and evolution of the drink, while Brew & Grow can offer tips and supplies to beginner and advanced home-brewers.

Food Options At Milwaukee Brewfest

The vendors’ area will also host a variety of food-stands. The usual fare of nachos, brats, hot dogs, and soda will be available from the Inferno Marketing Group tent, the main sponsor of Milwaukee Brewfest. Attendees feeling a bit more adventurous with their palettes can patron four local restaurants bringing limited menus to the event; Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub, Leff's Lucky Town, Snack Patrol, and Maxie's Southern Comfort.

In addition to all the fun already planned for the 2013 Milwaukee Brewfest, a special performance by the University of Wisconsin Alumni Band is also scheduled. Complimenting the performance will be acts by Milwaukee-based acts Michael Drake and The 5 Card Studs.

Segura and Gomez Head To Baseball All Star Game | Two Brewers Tagged As Reserves

All Star Jean Segura
The lowly Brewers received a chance to brighten up an otherwise dismal season over the weekend, as it was announced that rookie shortstop Jean Segura and center fielder Carlos Gomez were appointed to the 2013 National League All-Star team. The pair will play as reserves at their respective positions at the July 16th game at Citi Field in New York. They are the first multi-Brewer nominations since Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, and Rickie Weeks took the field for the NL in 2011. That season was Braun's fourth consecutive trip to the All-Star game, a streak he continued through 2012. Injuries this season kept the Brewers poster-boy from his sixth nomination is as many years.

Segura and Gomez represent a number of historic franchise accomplishments in the All-Star game. The 23 year old Segura is tied with Fielder, Paul Molitor, and Ben Sheets as the third youngest Brewer to play in the All-Star game, and is just the fourth shortstop in franchise history to be named to the team. Highlighting the record books though is Segura's title as just the second Brewer to become an All-Star in his inaugural season in the majors. Sheets was the first to accomplish the feat, in 2001.

Segura Playing Great Baseball At The Right Time

The Dominican's appointment was viewed as well deserved by fans and critics. He is the leading half of a duo that includes himself and Gomez as the second best combined teammate hitters in the NL.  Continuing his dominance over pitchers through the Winter League into the regular season, Segura leads NL in hits and is the only player in the entire league to have at least 25 stolen bases and more than 10 home runs. He has hit 11 over the wall so far this year, and has brought in 35 runners while maintaining an above .300 average.

The 27 year old Gomez, also born in the Dominican Republic, nearly matches the stats of his younger teammate and countryman. Since coming to the Brewers in 2009, he has become the team's dominant outfielder alongside Braun, and this year has improved dramatically at the plate. He is in the top-10 in every offensive category in the NL, earning his highest marks currently as 5th in both stolen bases and slugging percentage.

Badgers Football Players In The NFL

Badgers In The NFL
The Wisconsin Badgers have never been known as a college football program that puts lots of players in the NFL, but there are some. It seems that they tend to fill the ranks of the defensive or offensive line.  Still, there are a few Badgers wideouts in the NFL right now. As for who is making it in the pro ranks at this time, look no further than the list below.

Lance Kendricks- Kendricks, a tight end, was selected by the Rams in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. He has been sort of slow in his development, but he did show some promise last season, playing in all 16 games and starting 14 of them. Kendricks finished the season with 42 catches for 519 yards and four touchdowns. Since the upcoming season will be his third in the NFL the rams do expect some bigger things from him, and if Sam Bradford is going to continue to take steps as a starting quarterback, Lance Kendricks is going to be a big part of it.

Peter Kontz- A former Badgers center, Kontz was taken in round two of the 2012 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Kontz has taken nice steps in his first season, and there is no reason to think he won’t continue to improve heading into his second season. Very soon Kontz will be considered to be one of the best centers in the league.

Joe Thomas- A former first round draft choice of the Cleveland Browns in 2007, the career of Joe Thomas has gone exactly as planned, minus the zero playoff appearances. Thomas is probably the best left tackle in the game, and would be the answer to the Packers problems if he left Cleveland in the near future. Expect nothing less than another stellar pro-bowl season out of Thomas in 2013.

J.J. Watt- J.J. Swatt, as he is called, is a monster who has very quickly become the best defensive player in the entire league. Don’t expect him to repeat his 2012 performance this season, as history is not in his favor, but he still will have a great season and will probably make another pro bowl, as he has also become one of the game’s most recognizable names on the defensive side of the ball.

Russell Wilson- The rest of the NFL is probably thinking to themselves right now, “where did he come from’? Wilson, who wasn’t even on many scout’s radars as a starter, is now the unquestioned starting quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. However, I am not sold, as I do not think he will repeat his 2012 performance and I am still not sold on him as a long term starter in the NFL. What happens a lot with the young quarterbacks, especially rookies, is the league has very little tape on them. This is not the case anymore with Wilson, as teams now have an entire season of tape on him, and I believe they will adjust properly.

Milwaukee Memorial Day Parade 2013 Information

Milwaukee Memorial Day Parade
Milwaukee's 148th Memorial Day Parade is set to get-underway on Monday. The annual event is one of the city's largest and most attended gatherings, lining thousands of spectators along the parade route.

Honoring the service men and women who have fallen during combat, this year's parade will feature a saluting of Milwaukee County Veteran of the Year Mike Malloy. The usual color guards, bands, military vehicles, and marching units will also be in procession, and an after ceremony will lay wreaths for POW-MIA soldiers. A special honor to service women from past and present will be the special theme of 2013's parade.

The Memorial Day Parade will begin at 2PM on Monday, May 27th at the corner of 4th Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The event will last approximately an hour-and-a-half, ending at the Veterans Park War Memorial Center at 3:30PM. The wreath-laying ceremony will begin immediately thereafter. Milwaukee Admirals Season Ends At Quarterfinals

Milwaukee Admirals Hockey
The Milwaukee Admirals were kicked from the postseason last weekend, losing their opening five-game series to the Texas Stars three games to one. It is the team's second first-round loss in as many years, as they fell win-less against Abbotsford in 2012.

Milwaukee finished the season just two games short of a top-seed in the Midwest Division. Winning 41 games in 2012, the team continued a decade-long streak of 40-plus win seasons, though a Calder Cup has eluded the organization since 2003.

The number-one seed in the South, the Stars kept the Admirals scoreless for five consecutive periods at one point during the Western Conference Quarterfinal series. Kevin Henderson managed to save some face for the team late in Friday's game, breaking the drought with just 90 seconds left in the third. They couldn't come up with another, however, and goals from Texas Matt Fraser and Alex Chaiasson earlier in the night was enough to end the Admirals season.

Unlike the Bucks fortunes in their recent playoff appearance, nobody can claim the fire left the Admirals over the past two weeks. The team threw a volley of shots on Stars keeper Cristopher Nilstorp in the final period in Cedar Park, out-shooting the home team by ten in the last twenty-minutes.

Not even after dropping the first game of the series in a crushing overtime defensive dual that only saw a single goal did Milwaukee waver. They evened the series at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on April 27th with an impressive shutout. Goalie Magnus Hellberg stopped twenty-three shots in the game, though his luck wouldn't last in Texas during the pair's third meeting and fourth meetings. Texas would put in four goals to the Admirals one on their home rink, handing Milwaukee a shutout of their own in game three.

The Stars move on to face division rival the Oklahoma City Barons in the semifinals. The Barons finished third in the South behind Texas and the Charlotte Checkers, though they swept Charlotte in their opening five-game series three games to none.

Brewers Run Hot And Cold In 2013 | Will Fans Like The Bumpy Brewers Ride

Brewers 2013 Season
This has been a rather interesting start to the 2013 season for the Brewers. After a bad first week, in which the bullpen couldn't be relied on for anything, the Brewers got hot, really hot, surged to the top of the National League standings, and everyone was happy. Here's the problem with that. As I've stated all off season, this team is not going to contend for 162 games. There is just simply not enough there for them to do so. But, so far, the Brewers season has been just as predicted by yours truly, up and down, and it looks as if it will remain that way.

The Brewers have cooled off since that hot streak having lost five in a row, and the powerhouse Texas Rangers come to town for a two-game series. Looking beyond the Rangers series, I don't see but maybe one win until they come back home. After the Rangers, they go to Cincinnati for three, they go to Pittsburgh for four, then St. Louis for three. By the time the Cardinals series is over, Milwaukee is looking at a potential 2-15 record in their last 17 games. It does get better after that, as a bunch of winnable series are up next for Milwaukee- Minnesota, Philadelphia, Miami, and Houston are all on the Brewers late-May and June schedule.

Brewers Fans Get Ready For Up And Down Season

Basically the Brewers will either be really, really hot or really, really cold for most of the season. If you are wondering how I was able to foresee this, it boils down to understanding how young teams like this play. If we use history as our guiding tool, this is how's it's always been. Young teams, because of their inexperience, aren't necessarily to confident in themselves, and that is where the cold streaks come in. But, when things are going right, young players start to believe that they are as good as anybody, and they play like it, hence the nine game winning streak earlier this season.

Ted Thompson Packers GM Makes The Right Moves Most Of The Time

Ted Thompson
As I was sitting here yesterday afternoon with the final round of the Master playing on my TV in the background (And yet another signature Masters finish it was) going through more possible draft scenarios that could unfold, I began to think about everything that has transpired for the Packers over the last eight years. Over the course of the last eight years, the moods swings of Packers fans have been equivalent to that of a woman who is eight-months pregnant. Going from screaming “we want Brett!” in Aaron Rodgers first game to five years later calling him “like the greatest quarterback ever," indeed Packers fans have had their share of not so brilliant moments.

Through everything that has happened though, one thing has remained certain. Despite all of his critics, despite all of the questioning, through all of the glory, Ted Thompson has remained sturdy as a rock, making each decision, and being confident in that decision. Once again, as we head towards the draft, Packers fans are left with more questions than answers. Why did Thompson not even make an offer to Jennings? Why did Thompson not even offer Woodson a cut in pay before releasing him? Why has Thompson once again done nothing in free agency to address any questions? Why in the world did he choose to hang on to Jermichael the loudmouth? Some may call Ted Thompson a mad genius, others may say he's just plain mad. However, if you look at Thompson's track record, you will notice a recurring theme- there is a method to his madness, and even though we may not see it right away, we will see the benefits in the decisions he makes eventually.

In 2005 Ted Thompson let go of pro bowl offensive lineman Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle. It's not that he tried to re-sign them because he didn't. Thompson let them both go without even offering them contracts. Yes, that's right. Case closed, not contract offered. Doesn't this sound much like what happened with Greg Jennings this offseason? For this decision, Packers fans went ballistic. However, Thompson, rather than sign them both to inflated contracts, instead used that money he saved to sign Charles Woodson and Ryan Pickett. Now tell me how that worked out? Yeah, I thought so. Woodson went from draft bust to first ballot hall of famer in his eight years in Green Bay and Pickett has been nothing but a stalwart along the defensive line during that time period as well.

Pass On Lynch To Keep Rodgers And Matthews

In 2009 all it would have cost Thompson is a mid round draft choice for Marshawn Lynch. One little draft choice and the Packers running game is solved for a long time. Thompson saw it another way. Yes, all it would have cost was a mid round draft choice, but then he would be stuck paying Lynch a huge contract, which means that Packers negotiator Russ Ball would not be having discussions with both Clay Matthews and Aaron Rodgers on making them Packers for a very long time. Instead, James Starks got hot, and the Packers won the Super Bowl.

Last season Woodson was moved to safety. Many understood the Packers need for another safety but they questioned if Thompson was leaving the cornerback position vulnerable. Thompson spent a 2nd round draft choice on cornerback Casey Heyward, who was a candidate for rookie of the year. Then there is Sam Shields, who following the Woodson move to safety absolutely blossomed as a starter and is now the Packers ace cover corner. So as you can see, Thompson may make a lot of decisions that leave fans scratching their heads, but just remember, there is a method to his madness.

Brewers Walk On Songs 2013

Brewers walk on songs
Walk-on songs are tradition throughout professional sports. Wrestlers will often have a composer create a theme song for them to step into the ring with. In Europe, the popular sports of darts and snooker have become famous for their usage of entrance-music for competitors, with all thirty-two participants in the recent 2012 World Snooker Championship required to pick a tune. In darts, introduction-music is used as an hype-tool, often boasting a player's nickname or home country.

Even in the United States, music has come to play a pivotal role in our overall spectacle-sport experience. Colleges take pride in old fight-songs, while professional football teams often hire songwriters to come up with a catchy crowd favorite.

In baseball, the use of music to signal the next player at-bat has become standard. Even pitchers have their own walk-on songs. AC/DC's “Hell's Bells” was recommended to be honored by the Baseball Hall of Fame for its use as Padres reviler Trevor Hoffman's theme in 1998.

Fans had their first chance at hearing their favorite Brewers player's walk-on theme at opening day on Monday. Only Aramis Ramirez denied an entrance-song, while the rest of his teammates spanned music's genres with picks from Drake to Motley Crew.

Greather Milwaukee Auto Show | A Great Way To Check Out New Cars

The Greater Milwaukee Auto Show began this week, continuing a tradition that has brought car-makers and lovers together for years. The annual trade-show opened it's doors on Saturday, at the Delta Center, and it is expected that over half-a-million patrons will attend the event before it wraps-up on Sunday March third.

According to analysts, Wisconsin has been a leader in the upward trend of car sales in recent years, especially compacts. The Automotive Dealers Association of Mega Milwaukee says that it expects sales of lighter, smaller, and more fuel efficient cars to increase heavily in 2013, and that makes the city a prime place for manufactures to show their new wares.

Nearly every major car-maker has a presence at the event. Ford rolled out it's new 2013 Mustang for the show, as did Dodge with the brand-new Charger and Challenger. Japanese manufacturers such as Honda and Toyota brought their highly popular compact models to Milwaukee for display, as well as a number of hybrids.

Motor Trend Brings Aston Martin To Milwaukee

Motor Trend, the producers behind the show added some extra glam to this year's event, however. Highlighted by the exact Aston Martin driven by Roger Moore as James Bond in “Die Another Day”, patrons will have the chance to view luxury cars rarely seen on city streets.

Complete with protruding missiles and front-facing machine-guns, 007's Aston Martin is just the first in an array of high-end vehicles on display at the Delta Center for the event. Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Lamborghini will all have their newest models rolled out for the show, as will Bugatti, with a prototype McLaren P1. And, while attendees will not be able to sit in the cars, Sony will be offering a promotional photo-shoot of patrons that they will then superimpose into the driver's seat of the person's car of choice.

Tickets for the Auto Show will be $10 for adults thirteen and older. $8 for seniors and students, and $5 for children seven-to-twelve. Kids under the age of seven get in free! Special ticket pricing is available on the final day of the event, Sunday March third, when kids under fifteen will be admitted free for Family Day.
