Prince Fielder Hit's First All Star Home Run for Brewers

It's been way too long, but Prince Fielder hit the first home run for a Milwaukee Brewer in an All Star game. He slapped that homer in the fourth inning, and it sailed over the left field wall. It's as if these great things are all coming in his final season.

Fielder came out hot, right from the start of the season. There was no April slump for him this time. He really hasn't had a bad month so far in 2011. In 92 games, he has hit a total of 22 home runs, and only 58 strikeouts. It's looking good for Prince as the season rolls along. Where will he play next year? For now, let's just focus on his work here in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Bucks 2010 Playoffs | Is There A Chance for the Bucks?

Milwaukee Bucks 2010 Playoffs are still a possibility. John Salmons was traded to the Bucks on February 18. In return, the Chicago Bulls get Joe Alexander and Hakim Warrick. Milwaukee also picks up a pair of second round draft choices.

John Salmons was literally out of place for most of his first night on the court for Milwaukee. He was getting some serious on-the-job training from Bogut, Jennings, etc. He didn't have a good night, but sank a very important three-pointer with just seconds to play. That score put the game out of reach. Salmons ended the night with 19 points in the Pistons game, and sent Detroit packing.

The next night, he scored another 19 points, and Brandon Jennings did the same. The Bucks are in the midst of a three-game win streak. They have the eighth spot in the playoffs at the time of this post. They are selling extra Bradley Center tickets for the upcoming game, just because of the win streak and Salmons acquisition.

Pridefest is washed out

Man O' Man did the rain fall on Pridefest. Indigo Girls were the main act this year. They were scheduled for the Miller stage. At one point, the gates were closed, and nobody could enter the Summerfest grounds. The storm raged all around, and people scrambled for shelter.

This weekend was almost a total washout for the Pridefest fans. Even if you got to the Summerfest grounds, the ride home on Saturday was nearly impossible. Major streets were blocked off.

It took some of us an hour just to drive five miles across the southern half of Milwaukee. I'm glad I'm not flooded out, but others were not so lucky. I hope Pridefest can take the hit, but come back strong for 2009. See you there?

Rilo Kiley at The Pabst Theater

Start off your extended Memorial weekend with a little Rilo Kiley at the Pabst Theater. Jenny Lewis heads up this band, and the put the "indy" in independent. Under the Blacklight is the cd that they are supporting with this current tour. Tickets are cheap, and still available. It's one of those general admission shows, so you can expect some maneuvering to get the prime spots. I would head right for the balcony instead of the main floor. Those old theaters, have great views from upstairs. The sound can be real nice up there too.

Shag at State Fair

It's a Shaggin' ritual to see Shag a State Fair. They are the nicest bunch of guys, and they play quality rock tunes in an unpretentious style. It's a pit stop you must make when you walk the grounds of state fair. Chuck Travis Jr. is a master musician, and the rest of his band is up to the task. Perhaps I'm just dreaming of summer while the snow still melts this late into spring. Check out Shag when you get to State Fair.

Summerfest coming up fast

Why did Summerfest book The Jonas Brothers to headline the last night at Summerfest? They sold out a 3000 head venue this year, but they are not worthy of a 23,000 seat venue. Sorry, put "JOBRO" on a side stage. Hell, push them out onto a lake barge for all I care. I can't believe that Summerfest would sell enough Marcus Amp. tickets to make this work. The comments I get from the adults of Milwaukee regarding Summerfest have a similar ring. They basically want to know why the festival has dropped in quality. I think I know why. It's been about the beer for the past 10 years, not the music. Summerfest pays less and less money for the musical acts, so what do you expect?

Eagles Club shows

20 years ago I started to go to shows at various Eagles clubs around the Midwest. The Eagles had clubs in Madison, Racine and Milwaukee. Times were tough for those fraternal Eagles, so they started to rent their clubs to just about anybody. I saw a Crusties show at the Milwaukee Eagles club in 1986. The club members did not like a punk band defiling their hallowed hall. I don't even think that a Milwaukee rock band would have soothed the anger. Now, it's common practice to see lots of shows at lots of Eagles clubs in Wisconsin.

Shank Hall Milwaukee

I used to know it as Teddy's. Back then the venue was host to anything from Punk Rock to Folk, to Rock and Roll. Now Teddy's is Shank Hall. I have seen some great shows at Shank Hall. Gary Numan was one of the best. He toured through Milwaukee last April. Gary Numan still has the chops. So did Carl Palmer, of ELP. He brought a 16 year old guitar prodigy with him. It was amazing.

Everybody likes pictures of their favorite Rock and Roll bands. Milwaukee fans are no different. When I was looking up the band Avery's Boneyard, I found a link to a favorite Rock and Roll band of mine. They just started the gallery, but I know more pictures will be up soon. Good things come to those who wait.

Shows that Feature Milwaukee Rock and Roll

I like the band On A Sun. Unfortunately, they are playing for the big record contract, instead of the fans. Sometimes you can see it in their style. They seem to have a manager that wants to drink from their fountain and score the big money. Still, I like them. I like the Rock and Roll band Crumpler. I like the rock bands that have something to say in their music. Lots of Milwaukee bands have great lyrics. Great Rock and roll bands in Milwaukee play The Rave, but I don't go there too much. I really like the new Milwaukee venue Turner Hall.

The State of The Union Address Milwaukee Style

I pledge to comment fairly on the Milwaukee rock music scene. I might comment on national touring bands, local rock bands, international rock bands, playing shows in Milwaukee, touring the world, my views, my ideas, me me me. Ok, with that address out of the way, I would like to say that my favorite club to play and see shows is currently Points East Pub. The sound man was top notch, the room was full of rock fans, and I left the club happy.
